    Hokkaido 2020: "Diversity, Transformation, Renewal"

    In a 300-word essay, please,
    1) explain why you wish to participate in the Hokkaido 2020 Workshop; and
    2) outline how might use the Workshop content in your courses.

    Part D: Letter of Recommendation

    Each application must include a letter of recommendation from the Applicant's Dean or higher academic official indicating Applicant's qualifications and how the school will support the incorporation of Japan Studies into the undergraduate curriculum. This letter of recommendation should be uploaded directly via the Hokkaido 2020 Workshop portal (separate tab). 

    Part E: Registration Fee

    Workshop participants will be responsible for their airfare to and from Hokkaido, for their transportation to and from New Chitose Airport (CTS) and to Hakodate Airport (HKD), and for most meals. In addition, they will pay a registration fee, currently estimated at $1,700, which includes accommodation, the costs of the chartered bus for the four-day study tour, museum entrance fees, local guides, and some group meals.

    Pending a Japan Foundation grant outcome, JSA might be able to offer several travel awards, each approx. $1,000. No special application is required for the travel awards. Please make sure you respond to the relevant question (#13) in Part A above.


    ​A non-refundable $100 deposit will be due within 10 days of acceptance, with the balance due by May 7, 2020. Payment instructions will be sent to the participants with successful applications.
