A Professional Development Workshop
Preceding JSA's Annual Conference
January 5-6, 2022
Honolulu, Hawai’i
The Workshop’s main themes will center on the achievements and challenges contemporary Ainu and Kānaka Maoli communities face, including indigenous rights; belief systems and cultural heritage; identity, resilience, and language; generational change and the role of the arts; historical and educational pressures to “assimilate”; and the economic and cultural impacts of tourism. We plan six (6) sessions, one of which would involve a field trip to a culturally significant site on O‘ahu.
