Full-time (non-tenured) Assistant Professor (Japanese Studies, conducted in English)

The School of Cultural and Creative Studies at Aoyama Gakuin University, Tokyo, an emerging institution started in 2008 that prepares students for roles in cultural and artistic management, seeks an enthusiastic academic for a full-time, non-tenured position of assistant professor (jokyo) to teach courses on Japanese Studies conducted in English.

Job details (duties, subject responsible for, etc.)

1) 4 classes (8 hours) of teaching duties per week in both first and second semesters (in April-July and September-January; 15 weeks each); to be conducted in English.

2) Every week in each semester the successful candidate will be responsible for 3 classes (3 different student groups) for the course "Topics in Japanese Studies" and 1 class for "Introduction to Japanese Studies." "Topics in Japanese Studies" will be a course mainly for 3rd/4th-year undergraduate students aimed at enhancing their ability to acquire and articulate knowledge and opinions on matters related to fields of Japanese studies, including culture, arts, society, history, media and business. "Introduction to Japanese Studies" is a course mainly for 1st/2nd-year undergraduate students to give them new perspectives to understand cultural/social phenomena in Japan. The latter course belongs to the all-university program of Aoyama Gakuin University, named Aoyama Standard, mainly for 1st/2nd-year undergraduate students to give them new perspectives and elementary academic skills.
N. B. The names and content of the courses are tentative: they may be modified or changed according to the successful candidate's specialties and his/her background.

3) Assistance in producing and revising English documents; support work for entrance examinations; ancillary support for education (advising students during duty hours; involvement in curriculum design and development, grading of individual student performance, etc.); participation in other academic and administrative responsibilities.
